    Skills for the job

    • Desire to work mostly hands-on in buildings and grounds surrounding facilities
    • Enjoy using equipment and tools in construction and repair
    • Knowledge of basic building and grounds maintenance practices
    • Operation of power tools
    • Perform heavy, manual works under confined and uncomfortable conditions
    • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
    • Operate a computer and learn basic City computer applications
    • Respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis
    • Handle high levels of stress due to heavy workload and frequent task prioritization changes
    • Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines for mechanic work
    • Provide customer service to customers and staff
    • May be required to lift heavy equipment and materials more than 50 pounds. May be required to work at heights more than 20 feet

    Education

    A high school diploma or GED-certificate. Trade or technical school, or additional experience in skilled trade areas (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, vehicle mechanic) may be required for certain positions.
