Future Water Supply

  • The City and Rockwood Water People’s Utility District (RWPUD) jointly own and operate the Cascade Well Field. Expansion is under way to construct Gresham’s new water system, the Cascade Groundwater Alliance.  

    Future water supply

    Once complete, our new water system can produce over 30 million gallons per day to meet future demand. 

  • SE 223rd Production Well

    The City will be drilling a groundwater production well at SE 223rd off of SE Stark. Drilling will take 8-12 months.  The well drilling is expected to be complete this summer. 

    What to expect

    • Work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm.
    • .Construction equipment, drill rig and dump trucks.
    • .Drilling noise.
    • Some vibration may be noticed near the drill site.
    • The work site will be fenced and secured..

    Rockwood Groundwater Development Package 1

    Rockwood Water People’s Utility District is leading a construction project that will include the following upgrades: 

    • Build a new 6-million-gallon reservoir. 
    • Upgrade an existing 4-million-gallon reservoir.  
    • Wellhouse improvements for the Cascade 7 groundwater well.  
    • Install a new water transmission line from the treatment facility to water storage tank.

    North Gresham Well

    Crews will begin drilling a new groundwater well near North Gresham Elementary. The new well  will help expand access and delivery of groundwater.  The well drilling will take 8-months to complete. 

    Work hours

    7am - 6pm, Monday - Friday

    Timeline

    Work begins in late May and will be complete by the end of the year.

    • Large drilling equipment and other materials.

    Kirk Park Well

    In 2019 the City drilled a new groundwater well at Kirk Park. The well allows us to tap into the Sand and Gravel Aquifer. The Kirk Park well can pump up to 4 million gallons of water per day.  

    Project timeline  

    Construction of a well pump house at Kirk Park starts in late Oct. In 2024 a new pipeline will be constructed connecting to the Rockwood District Offices, where the water will be treated.

    Schedule: Fall 2023 to Spring 2025

      Southwest Community Park Test Well

      In 2019 the City drilled a test well at Southwest Community Park.  A production well at this site requires further review. Water quality and water capacity testing is ongoing.
